Coffee Experiment = Success; Google+ Experiment Next
We do a lot of experimenting here are Firehawk Creative. It comes with the territory of having a Lean Startup mindset towards just about everything you do.
I have made it a priority to have more coffee meetings, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I had 18 meetings in the past 7 weeks that fall into this category of non-directly business related meetings. I fell short on the 1 coffee meeting a day goal I was hoping for, but the quality of the meetings I had definitely exceed expectations.
Results of the Coffee Experiment
Of the 21 meetings, only 8 of them actually took place in a coffee shop. 4 involved grabbing a beer after work (no complaint there), 3 involved walking around outside (also not complaining), 3 were lunch meetings, 2 took place sitting in a park, and only 1 was not in person as this person is currently in Brazil for the foreseeable future. I meet with 2 separate entrepreneurs from Germany who both were here looking to raise money. I got to spend some time with 3 people I consider to be informal mentors which were incredibly insightful. My total spend for these 18 meetings was $108.72. Worth every penny.
Did I get value out of the meetings?
Absolutely. I had at least one positive takeaway from every single one.
Will any business come from these meetings?
I can say with 100% certainty that it will. Most likely not directly, but definitely through word of mouth and referrals.
Did the people you met with find value in the meetings?
I clearly can’t say for certain, but I’ve had a couple of follow-up meetings and emails afterwards that give a very good indication that I’m not the only one who got a ton of value out of the meetings.
On top of all of that, I got to spend time with people that I enjoy spending time with. People who make me smarter, better, more knowledgable, who challenge me and ask great questions, who inspire me to work harder and make everything we do that much more enjoyable.
So with all that being said, the Coffee Experiment was clearly a success, and I’m going to be doubling down on the effort.
The Google+ Experiment
This one has been on my radar for a while. I've heard it said quite a few times in the past and it totally makes sense. So with that said, the next assumption we are going to test is that embracing Google+ is going to increase traffic and search results.
